Violet Ida Scanlon

Violet Ida Scanlon, 98, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, in Hobart, Oklahoma. She was born on December 28, 1916, in Moundsville, West Virginia, to Homer and Bammie (Longwell) Williamson. Violet moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to pack ammunition for WWII, where she met Raymond Scanlon. She married Raymond on September 27, 1946. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2000. Violet worked hard all of her life, being a nurses aide, manicurist, and managing the Housekeeping Department at Boca Raton Hotel Violet Ida Scanlon and Club in Florida for many years. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels in Whitehouse, Texas, and was very active in the Woman's Auxiliary in Tyler, Texas. Violet married Joseph Hopper on December 20, 2008, in Rocky, Oklahoma. In 2012, Violet and Joseph made their home in Hobart, Oklahoma. She was a member of the Calvary Life Assembly of God, Hobart, Oklahoma. Violet is survived by her husband Joseph Hopper, of the home; one daughter, Marla Harter, Ajijic, Mexico; one son-in-law, Walter Filipski, Orlando, Florida; five grandchildren, Carrie Grier and husband Tim, Whitehouse, Texas, Robin Welch and husband Joel, Cordell, Oklahoma, Jenny Eck and husband Robert, Whitehouse, Oklahoma, Brenda Harter, Wichita, Kansas, and Tammy Eikner and husband Matt, Whitehouse, Texas; 15 great-grandchildren; Chris, Daniel, Genevieve, Josh, Dylan W., Logan, Katherine, Dylan E., Caitlyn, Hunter, Bailee, Anthony, and Dan; and two great-great- grandchildren, Gabby and Lily. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Raymond Scanlon; daughter Veronica Jane Smith; and eight siblings, Russell, George, Corbert, Dean, Franklin, Arthur, Helen, and Evelyn. Funeral Services for Violet were held Saturday, November 21, 2015, at the Calvary Life Assembly of God, Hobart, Okklahoma, with Reverend Tracy Fitzgerald officiating. Burial followed at the Resurrection Memorial Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home, Hobart.
