
Loraine Kamphaus was born September 25, 1928, in Elk City, Oklahoma, to Elizabeth and Noah Atchley. She passed away October 2, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Canute, Oklahoma, at the age of 88 years and 7 days. Loraine begin school at Ravia, Oklahoma, before the family returned to Elk City, where she graduated from Elk City High School. She was employed at the Green Frog Café before beginning her career in banking, working as cashier. Loraine moved to San Francisco and remained there for several months before returning to Oklahoma and working at First National Bank of Elk City. She was married to LeRoy E. Kamphaus at Clayton, New Mexico, on November 11, 1956, and they lived in Elk City for a short time before moving to Canute, to make their home. Loraine continued to work at First National Bank until becoming employed at First State Bank of Canute. She remained there for 13 years and then returned to First National Bank of Elk City, working there for the next 20 years, until retiring after 47 years in banking. Loraine enjoyed reading the Daily Oklahoman everyday, watching her TV shows, and gardening. Her family will always remember her favorite quote, "Save the pieces". She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant son, Lane Edward Kamphaus; one sister, Dorothy Williams; and brothers, Rex, John L., Kenneth, and Noah Ray Atchley. Loraine is survived by her three daughters, Lisa Welsh and husband, Pat; Lana Merz and husband, Kevin; and Lara Langley and husband, Kevin, all of Canute, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Nathan Merz and wife, Kaitlyn of Houston, Texas; Kyle Merz of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Jeremy Welsh of Canute, Oklahoma, and Jarrod Welsh and wife, Trish of Weatherford, Oklahoma; six great-grandchildren, Brandon, Erica, Jacoby, Symphony, Jonah and Arwen; a greatgreat- grandson, Keith; three sisters-in-law, Pat Kamphaus, Dorothy Atchley, and Deloris Atchley; half sisters and brother, Berti Adams, Pearl Cline, Donnie Martin, Annie Wallace, Roxi Bryant, and Joe A. Atchley; and a host of other relatives and friends. A Prayer Vigil was held Tuesday, October 4, 2016, in the Whinery-Savage Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Burial followed at the Holy Family, under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service.
