Windell Bryan Dunlap

Windell Bryan Dunlap was born November 14, 1942, in Duncan, Oklahoma, to H.B. and Anna Lucille (Gibson) Dunlap. He passed away unexpectedly on January 20, 2016, in Cordell, Oklahoma, at the age of 73. Windell was raised in Oklahoma, and the family moved to Dill City in 1959. He graduated from Dill City High School in 1960, then attended Southwestern in Weatherford. On June 25, 1965, Windell married the love of his life, Miss Vicky Brown. They made their home in Cordell, where they raised their children. Windell served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict as a Drill Instructor. He also worked several years for Leo Leeper’s Furniture Store on the courthouse square. He managed United Supermarket until 1972, when he opened Dunlap Body Shop in Cordell, and ran it until his death. Windell was an avid cowboy and served many years as president of the Cordell Round Up Club. He enjoyed reading, watching television, and spending time restoring his 1958 red Chevy Impala. Windell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cordell, and the Adult One Men’s Sunday School Class. He enjoyed spending time visiting and drinking coffee with friends. Windell loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed visiting with them and listening to their stories and loved being called “Popsy”. His oldest granddaughter Kaylin gave him the name that he so treasured. Windell was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Shirley Gambrell and brother-in-law Jim Gambrell; one daughter, Lesley Dunlap Klepczyk in 2000; and one infant brother. He is survived by his wife, Vicky of the home; daughter, Shelly Palesano and husband Greg of Denton, Texas; son Chris Dunlap of Lewisville, Texas; eight grandchildren, Kaylin Lee and husband Dennis, Jordan Dunlap, Taylor Dunlap, Landry Dunlap, Alex Palesano, Grant Palesano, Noah Klepczyk, and Elijah Klepczyk; brothers, Ronald Dunlap and wife Sharon of Oklahoma City, Jerold Dunlap and wife Kay of Canyon Lake, Texas; and a host of dear family and friends. Services for Windell Dunlap were held Saturday, January 23, 2016, at the First Baptist Church of Cordell with Reverend Terrell Romberg officiating. Burial followed at Lawnview Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Musick- Varner Funeral Home of Cordell.
