Jim C. Couch, M.D. was born Sept. 25, 1936, to parents Letha Elnora Ball and Lawton Thompson Couch in Ada. He was raised in many towns, as his family followed work in the oil fields of Texas and Oklahoma, graduating from Duncan High, Oklahoma Baptist University, then University of Oklahoma Medical School. Jim was a family practice physician in Cordell, American Samoa, Weatherford, and for the Indian Health Service. He met and married LaRita Kaye Dawson 62 years ago, while attending OBU. He served six years in the Oklahoma Army National Guard 45th Infantry Brigade, and he was a member of First Baptist Church, Norman.
Jim is survived by his children Jeffrey Alan Couch and wife Susan of Tulsa, Carol Renee Thompson and husband Craig of Honolulu, Hawaii, Cynthia Kaye Rodriguez and husband Jose of Oklahoma City; daughter-in-law Melissa Diane Evans Couch of Binger; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and close family friends Julie Perkins Crawford and David Roscoe Buckley.
Preceding Jim in death are his wife LaRita; son Steven Thomas Couch; grandson Jay Alexander Couch; sister Gwendolyn Joy Couch Harrington; brother Charles Lawton Couch; and his parents.
