
Leland Mandrell was born May 12, 1929, in Dalhart, Texas, to Bernice Carroll and Lola Mae (Whitby) Mandrell, and passed away October 22, 2015, at the age of 86. As a young child Leland’s family moved to Dill City, Oklahoma, where he was raised north of town. Leland graduated from Dill City High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He married Oletta Jane Klein May 1, 1954, in Dill City, Oklahoma. Leland and Oletta made their home in Dill City where they raised their three children. He was a member of the Dill City First Baptist Church, American Legion, and the Dill City Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, and fishing. Leland and Oletta enjoyed spending the winter months in South Texas. His survivors include daughters, Cathy Schones and husband Ray of Canute, Oklahoma, Patricia O’Hara and husband Bob of Wichita, Kansas; son David Mandrell of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; sisters-in-law Joyce Mandrell of Snyder, Texas, Christine Mandrell of Sentinel, Oklahoma, and Shirley Parrish of Moore, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of dear family and friends. Leland was preceded in death by his wife, Oletta, on September 12, 2015; his parents; and two brothers. Services for Leland Mandrell were held Monday, October 26, 2015, at South Burns Cemetery with Reverend Ron Roskam officiating.
