Kelly John, son of Lela (King) and John O’Neil was born at the hospital in Alva, Oklahoma on October 5, 1949.
He passed away due to complications from COVID-19 on the 31st of October 2021 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 72 years, 26 days.
Kelly attended Sacred Heart Catholic School through 8th grade and then attended Alva High School, graduating with the Class of 1967. He continued his education at the University of Oklahoma, graduating with the Class of 1971.
After college, Kelly worked as an auditor and a stock broker in Oklahoma City. He then returned home in 1974 to work on the family farm northwest of Alva, which he did for 47 years.
On June 1, 1968, he married Peggy Owen in Capron, Oklahoma. To their marriage, two children, Shawn and Megan, were born. On November 30, 2013, he was united in marriage with Gail Holt in Clinton, Oklahoma.
Kelly was active in many community organizations, serving on the boards of the Alva Farmers Coop, Woods County Rural Water District #3, Woods County Farm Bureau, and Sacred Heart Parish Council.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Kelly is survived by his wife Gail, son Shawn of Alva, daughter Megan and partner Grant Berthiaume of Tucson, Arizona, Chism Holt and Zach of Cordell, Tanner Holt and Alicia of Cordell, Colten Holt and Katey of Cordell, and Jaden Palmer and Joey of Clinton.
He is also survived by two sisters and their husbands, Mary Catherine Bliss and Wayne of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Linda McCoy and Don of Alva.
Kelly had 12 grandchildren, Hannah and Kelton O’Neil, Keegan, Kaylin, Brayden, and Braxton Holt, Ava and Georgia Willingham, Haylee and Josie Holt, and Kambree and Kiptyn Palmer.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Charcot-Marie Tooth Association or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
Family visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 4th from 6-7:30 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Chapel in Alva. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 5th at the Catholic Church in Alva.
Interment will be held at a later date in a private ceremony
