Alfred Martin Green, 98, of Muskogee, OK passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021.

Al was born at home on October 21, 1923 in Cordell, Oklahoma to Walter and Grace Green. He celebrated his 98th birthday in October of this year. His parents were wheat and dairy farmers.

He attended school in Cordell and continued his studies at Oklahoma A&M, graduating in 1947. While he was in college, he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, whose house was next door to the Chi Omega sorority house. The two houses shared many social activities, and it was at one of these that he met the love of his life, and his wife for 66 years, until her death, Anita Letts. They were married August 2, 1947, right after they both graduated. They took teaching jobs in Dell City until 1949, when Al became the Vocational Agriculture teacher for the Ft. Sill school system and moved to Lawton where they started their family.

A few years later he took a sales position with Superior Feed Mills and moved the family to Oklahoma City. That job evolved into a sales position with American Cyanamid where he sold agricultural chemicals. When Cyanamid asked him to move to their home office in New Jersey he answered with a resounding no. He was determined his daughters would not grow up On the East Coast.

Calling on one of his good customers in Muskogee, the Muskogee Seed Company, he found out the owner was looking for a partner and he jumped on the opportunity.

Once in Muskogee he settled into the business and enjoyed every minute of it for many years until he ultimately sold it and retired. But his retirement didn’t last long.

He became the Muskogee United Way Director for the next several years of his ‘retirement’. It was during this time that he was primarily responsible for the air shows that benefited United Way.

Al was preceded in death by his parents Grace and Walter Green; wife, Anita Mae (Letts) Green and brother Ted Green.

He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Hewitt (Perry) and Karee Steele (Jim); grandchildren Perry Hewitt, IV., Mike Hewitt, Chris Hewitt, Kristen Parks and Sarah Allen; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Hewitt, Jacob Lujan, Daniel Hewitt, Carson Hewitt, Mila Hewitt, Kate Hewitt, Jack Hewitt, Abbey Scott, Jolie Mae Allen, Bronx Duren; great-great-granddaughter, Evie Ledezma; special nephew, Lynn Green, special cousin, Frances Burris, special “third” daughter, Heather Lafitte.

A celebration of Al’s life will be Friday, December 3, 2021 graveside at Memorial Park Mausoleum with Mr. Ronnie McKee officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Muskogee Meals on Wheels at Grace Episcopal Church at 218 N 6th St, Muskogee, OK 74401.
