Jewel Geraldine Igo Baird, of Cordell, went very peaceable to be with her heavenly father Friday,  October 23, 2015, just six short days before her 99th birthday. Geraldine was born October 29, 1916, to Mason and Osie (Slatten) Igo. On October 28, 1932, one day before her 17th birthday, she married her  husband William Archie Baird. To this union one daughter was born, Lynda Guynell Baird. Archie died September 14, 2002, after a long and happy marriage to his wife and best friend. Geraldine worked at various places, but her greatest passion was cooking great meals for Archie and Guynell, and did she ever spoil them both rotten. She loved spending time with all her family, and loved the family holidays, and Thanksgiving Day was always spent at the Baird’s. Geraldine was not only a great cook, she was a fantastic seamstress and loved sewing for her family and friends. She and Archie enjoyed gardening and then canning their crops. They especially loved making their own recipe, called Archie’s Hot Stuff. When Archie passed away, Geraldine taught this skill to her nephew, Brad. They truly enjoyed making the recipe to gether. One of Geraldine’s favorite things to do was playing card games with family and friends, (she always seemed to be the winner of the games). She, Archie, and Guynell loved going to Rocky each day to eat at the Rocky Senior Citizens Center. Geraldine and Guynell kept the Baird tradition going after Archie passed away. Rhonda, Pam, Monte, Brad, and Derik loved to spend time at the farm. She always made them all feel so important and loved, and they certainly returned the love to her. Geraldine loved the Slatten Cousin Reunions each year, and she also loved the Igo sisters Friday night suppers. Yes, Geraldine was only six short days away from being 99. Up until a little over a year ago she and Guynell still lived in their home at the farm. They went to Rocky each day to eat, to church when they could and came to town every day. She lived a rich and busy life. Everyone who knew her loved her. Geraldine had a very dear and special friend, Florene Swart. These ladies loved spending time together, talking on the phone, and yes, playing cards. The Bairds and Swarts have been friends since 1946. Geraldine had a host of other friends she enjoyed spending time with. This Lady touched and blessed the life of everyone who knew and loved her. Her passing will create a large hole in our hearts. Our loss is Heavens gain. Geraldine’s survivors include her only child, Lynda Guynell Baird of the home; sisters Joan Hulin of Sentinel, Oklahoma and Regina Jones of Cordell, Oklahoma; nephews, Brad Jones of Cordell, Oklahoma, Monte Hulin of Hobart, Oklahoma, and J.C, Baird and wife Judy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nieces, Rhonda Thomas  and husband Jay of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Pamela Sullivan of Norman, Oklahoma; great nephew, Derik Sullivan and wife Carla, and children Taylor, Aubrey, and Boz of Norman, Oklahoma; cousins, Ruth Shaver of Garland, Texas, Mayda Piercey of Coppell, Texas, Frankie Lathram of Lubbock, Texas, and Brenda Boles of Lubbock, Texas; extended family and friends of the Rocky Senior Citizens Center; and many other dear friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
