Ramona Opal (Baker) Herren was born on June 2, 1916, to Louisa (Whitworth) Baker and Ralph Baker in Enid, Oklahoma. She was born two months early at a time when premature babies had a very low chance of survival. Ramona spent her childhood in Carmen, Oklahoma, and graduated from Carmen High School in 1934. She continued her education at Northwestern Oklahoma Teachers College (now NWOSU) in Alva graduating with a degree in Elementary Education in 1938. Her formal career in education ended in 1979, after 35 years of helping young people achieve their goals in life. Ralph and Ramona moved back to Cherokee in 1979. Her informal career included travels across the country and around the world, including a trip through the Panama Canal. She traveled to every continent except Australia and Antarctica. She loved painting ceramics and pictures, sewing, cooking, writing and many other crafts. She excelled in all she did, winning many blue ribbons at the County Fair in gardening and canning. Ramona was active in the First Christian Church Women’s Fellowship and her sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma. Dixon Dale Hubbard, 83, of Cordell passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Clinton Hospital after a sudden illness. Dixon was born on May 13, 1934, to Dale and Veda (Dixon) Hubbard in Dill City, Oklahoma. He graduated from Cordell High School in 1952, and went to Oklahoma A & M College to study Animal Husbandry. He graduated from Oklahoma A & M in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Husbandry, from Oklahoma State University in 1958 with a master’s degree in Animal Husbandry, and in 1960 with a doctorate of philosophy in Animal Nutrition, it’s a nice accomplishment for a Cordell boy whose college chemistry teacher told him he wasn't college material and should go to vocational school. Dixon had a lengthy and successful career in agriculture and cooperative extension at Panhandle State University; Texas A & M University Cooperative Extension Service in Lubbock, Texas; and the United States Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC. He received countless awards from agricultural organizations such as the Beef Improvement Federation honoring his work. They named him a pioneer in improving the quality of beef in the United States. His work allowed consumers to get beef that would be the same quality around the country. So, when you eat your next steak, you can think of Dixon Hubbard. Dixon was also active in 4-H, livestock judging, meat judging, and always wanted people to be aware of where their food originated. His training also led him to be an expert meat carver to help it taste just right, so if you cooked meat Dixon had his favorite knife ready to slice it, and you should probably step out of the way. On August 29, 1954, Dixon married Patty (Cain) Hubbard. They had three children, Dale Keith Hubbard and his wife Melanie of Cordell; Malinda Reynolds and husband Herb of Montgomery, Texas; and Dan Hubbard of Montgomery, Texas. Dixon loved his family, especially his eight grandchildren, Rachel (Hubbard) Smith of Edmond; Mary Ann (Hubbard) Shepherd of Yukon; Clinton Hubbard of Centreville, Virginia; Amanda (Reynolds) Smith of Conroe, Texas; Danielle Hubbard of Oklahoma City; Kelli (Reynolds) Wohlgemuth of Conroe, Texas; Cain Hubbard of Spring, Texas; and Seth Hubbard of Hydro. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren who brought him so much joy; Alex Smith, Rafe Smith, Camdyn Hubbard, Charlotte Rose Collado, Jace Hubbard, Beckham Hubbard, and Rowe Smith. Dixon was baptized into Christ March 31, 1946, at the Cordell Church of Christ. He was committed to the Lord’s work and served as an elder leading and shepherding the congregations in Manassas, Virginia; Frederick, Maryland; and Cordell, Oklahoma. He was an avid student of the Word throughout his life. He was committed to the Lord’s work though mission trips to Ukraine and worked with the High Plains Children’s home, which always held a special place in his heart. He would count his work for the Lord as the most important. Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 10, at 4th and College Church of Christ, in Cordell, with Josh Yeager and Chris Perrey officiating. Dixon was interred at Lawnview Cemetery in Cordell. Services were entrusted to Ray and Martha's Funeral Home of Cordell.

May 19, 2015 - June 10, 2017

Boz came into this world one lucky little boy. He was blessed to have two great, big sisters, Taylor and Aubrey, who he adored. He loved playing with and picking on them. He loved going with Taylor wherever she went, and playing with Aubrey was one of his favorite things to do. He found out quickly that he had it made when grandparents were around. Granddad Lecil was gonna make sure he had a bug juice to drink and something sweet to eat before he left cause that's what a boy needs more energy for the day. Gran was always making sure he had what he wanted. Every boy needs a rocking bull and a dump truck big enough to ride in. Boz also found his first, best buddy when he got Grammi Pam. She was the best partner to play with in the whole world. From riding the big wheel together to moving every pot and pan into the floor then back into the cabinets everyday, they did it together. All he had to do was say, "Come on, Grammi." He was also blessed with two parents Derik and Carla, who couldn't have asked for anything more than him. His personality, humor, toughness, and adventurous soul was perfect. His smile was contagious and could get him out of almost anything. His kind heart was shown anytime he thought he had hurt you or when you were hurting with an, "Are you OK?" Boz was given the sweetest most caring momma he could have dreamed of. She showed him the world, played, laughed, and let him run every day. Feeding the fish and watering flowers were fun times. She read to him every time there was a book at her fingertips, and when she finished he would just say, "Again." He loved every minute with his momma. His daddy couldn't have been anyone else. Boz had the same personality and orneriness as his daddy. They were inseparable when together. Daddy loved playing with cars and trucks inside and going outside as much as they could to throw Frisbees, balls, or just look around at whatever caught their eye. He never met a stranger, and he would always greet them with a smile. Boz was loved by everyone that he met in his short life. Boz is survived by his parents, Derik and Carla Sullivan of Blanchard; sisters, Taylor and Aubrey of the home; grandparents, Pam Sullivan and Lecil and Denice Church of Sentinel; great-grandparents, Martha Sullivan and Joan Hulin of Sentinel; Robert and Carleene Whinery of Dill City; and lots of aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his granddaddy, Max Sullivan; great-grandparents, Kenneth Sullivan, Mac Hulin, Lelan and Lorena Church. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Whinery Savage Funeral Home, 403 West Country Club Boulevard in Elk City.
