Walter Luttmer was born February 18, 1927, in Oakes, North Dakota, to Anna Marie and Bernard John Luttmer. He passed away January 5, 2017, at Canute, Oklahoma, at the age of 89 years, ten months and 17 days. Walter moved throughout the United States as a young boy and was drafted the summer of his junior year of high school. He served in the United States Army during World War II, where he was stationed in Japan. In December of 1946, he was honorably discharged and purchased a farm in Littlefield, Texas. Walter was married in a double wedding to Agnes Paulina (Zigenfuss) Luttmer at Holy Family on January 20, 1948, along with Walter's brother and Agnes' sister. After their marriage they moved to Littlefield, Texas, southwest of Burns Flat, Oklahoma, and Hammon, Oklahoma, before settling west of Canute, in 1962, where they raised their family. In 1963, he owned and operated the APCO gas station and farmed. He later began his civil service career at Clinton Sherman Air Force Base where he remained until the closing of the base in the early 70's. Walter farmed all of his life and especially enjoyed stripping cotton and tending his cattle, but his passion in life was his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters, and the American Legion of Canute. Walter was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Agnes; two grandchildren, Mark and Mary Luttmer; four sisters, Helena Luttmer, Rose Marie LaBauve, Frances Luttmer, and Josephine Luttmer; and three brothers, Albert, Edwin and Clarence Luttmer. He is survived by his six children, Frances Ann Tovornik and husband, Steve of Midland, Ohio, Joan Luttmer of Altus, Oklahoma, James Luttmer and wife, Marsha of Elk City, Oklahoma, John Luttmer and wife, Carla of Canute, Oklahoma, Robert Luttmer and wife, Sherry of Canute, Oklahoma, and Cindy Morse and husband, Terry of Elk City, Oklahoma; 19 grandchildren, 26 greatgrandchildren; one brother, Bernard Luttmer of Glenco, Oklahoma; four sisters-in-law, Evelyn Zigenfuss of Muleshoe, Texas, Loyola Light of Huntsville, Alabama, Johanna Lamar of Canute, Oklahoma, and Carolyn Zigenfuss and husband, Ambrose of Canute, Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives and friends. Prayer vigil services were held Sunday, January 8, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., at the Whinery- Savage Chapel officiated by Father Chinnaiah Pudota. Mass of Christian Burial services was held January 9, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Matthew Catholic Church, also officiated by Father Chinnaiah Pudota.
