Homer Adams

Homer Jackson (H.J.) Adams, 97, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday evening, July 5, 2017, from Silverado Memory Care in Kingwood, Texas. He was born February 7, 1920, to Homer Jefferson Adams and Harmon Delia McGavock in Lockney, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Eddie, Wayne, Joe, Lahoma, Helen, and Joyce. His brother, Arlye, of North Carolina survives him. He graduated from Cordell High School and then moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico, just as World War II was getting underway. He was turned down for military service because of a perforated eardrum and went to work at a new startup potash mine in Carlsbad, International Minerals and Chemical Corporation. Homer was a Refinery Foreman and a loyal and hardworking employee of IMC for 42 years. Homer was married to Lindwell Vallandingham in Carlsbad, New Mexico, on December 19, 1940, and they had two children, Joe Wayne Adams, deceased, and Rev. Linda Adams Goddard of Kingwood, Texas. Homer married Dorothy Shumate February 2, 1982, where they have been residents of Town Village in Edmond, Oklahoma. Homer is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his daughter, Linda and husband, Richard of Kingwood, Texas; his son's wife, Phyllis Adams of Artesia, New Mexico; six granddaughters, Kimberly Goddard Ray, and husband, Ted; Stasia Goddard Hamlin, and husband, Les; Joy Goddard Judd, and husband, Jared; Kristina Adams Shepherd, and husband, Kenneth; Lisa Adams Neel, and husband, Wes; and Jessica Adams Robertson, and husband, Ryan. He is also survived by 12 precious great grandchildren, Madeline and Bella Ray; Ian and Hope Judd; Hannah, Joe, McKinley Shepherd; Madison, Kacy, Kaleb Neel; Raleigh and Ada Robertson. A special thank you to Hospice of Silverado Kingwood for their loving support and a special thank you to Ray and Martha's Funeral Home in Cordell, Oklahoma, for all of the arrangements. Visitation were held on Monday, July 10, from 5:00 p.m., to 7:00 p.m., at Ray and Martha's Funeral Home, 203 S. Market, Cordell, Oklahoma. Funeral services were heldheld at 4th and College Church of Christ, 501 N. College Street, Cordell, on Tuesday, July 11, at 10:00 a.m. Burial was followed at Lawnview Cemetery, 14th Street, Cordell. Memorial donations may be made to Silverado Memory Care, 22955 Eastex Freeway, Kingwood, Texas. Silverado was Homer's last residence and he was surrounded with love and care from amazing caregivers and staff of Silverado Kingwood.
