Gary Wayne Husband

Gary Wayne Husband was born January 3, 1944, in Hayward, California, to Arthur Woodrow and Edith Viola (Bradford) Husband, and passed away October 19, 2015, in Cordell, Oklahoma at the age of 71. When the Second World War ended in 1945, Gary’s parents moved back to Cordell, Oklahoma, (Gary’s father worked in the shipyards in California during the war). Gary attended school in Cordell and graduated from Cordell High School in 1962. After graduation, Gary worked in the Palm Springs, California area for two years, before returning to Cordell to attend South Western Oklahoma State University for three semesters and OSU for one semester. Gary then joined the National Guard and spent six months in training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and then Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After guard training he moved back to Palm Springs, California, to work for Pacific Telephone Company and then Edison Electric for four years. He married Virginia Arnold in 1967, and to this union one daughter, Tracy René Hus band was born in 1972. Gary moved his family back to Cordell in 1971, where he has remained for the remainder of his life. Gary went to work for Britton Plumbing and later bought the company in 1977. He continued as a plumbing contractor working throughout western Oklahoma until his retirement in  2003, when injuries forced him to quit working full-time. Gary met Judy Dobbs in 1984, and began a partnership that led to their marriage and lasted 30 years. He had two step children, Shannon Hill and Gregg Dobbs. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, stock car racing, tinkering with old cars and jeeps, and sitting in his recliner watching football and other sports. His survivors include daughter, Tracy René Nichols and husband Kevin of Holliday, Texas; stepchildren, Shannon Hill and husband Kenneth of Erick, Oklahoma, and Gregg Dobbs and wife Vickie of Yukon, Oklahoma; brother Perrie Husband of Cordell, Oklahoma; sisterin- law, Deanna Husband of Cordell, Oklahoma; three grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; and a host of dear nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Dub Husband. Services for Gary Husband were held Friday, October 23, 2015, at Lawnview Cemetery with Reverend Mike Southerland officiating. Services were under the direction of Musick -Varner Funeral Home of Cordell, Oklahoma.
