Kathleen “Kat” (Beech) Kenimer, of Cordell, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 in Cordell, Oklahoma at the age of 94. Kat was born October 27, 1923, in Port, Oklahoma to John J. and Callie (Powers) Beech. In 1932, as a child she moved with her family to a farm southeast of Cordell. Kat attended Cordell High School and graduated in 1942. While in high school she played basketball on the Lady Blue Devils 1941 state semifinalist team and the 1942 state champion team. Kat’s graduating class went to Galveston Beach for their senior trip, but to get there they all loaded up in a make shift bus which was an open top cattle truck. Kat was raised on the farm in a loving family with her six brothers and a sister. At a young age she learned how to work hard and the art of “Good Ole Home Cooking” which she carried throughout her life. When World War II started, Kat’s brothers enlisted and Kat and Winnie took over their chores with the farming and milking the cows, a job her brothers always kept the girls from having to do. Kat’s family found humor in the fact that when the boys returned home from the war they relieved the girls of the farming, but sold the milk cows. Kat joined the First United Methodist Church in Cordell in 1939. She loved her church and church family. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women. Kat worked as a switchboard operator for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Cordell from 1946 until 1962. She met and married Ralph Kenimer on June 16, 1962 in Cordell. She and Ralph made their home on a farm near Hobart where she worked for Kenimer Flowers. After Ralph’s death Kat moved back to Cordell to be closer to family. She was a natural caregiver and her family was very appreciative of her loving compassion for them. She enjoyed cooking, making flower arrangements, going on trips, and watching television. Kat was a huge sports enthusiast. She was a huge Sooner fan, but then some of her nieces and nephews attended Oklahoma State University and she then became a Cowboy fan also. She and her close friend Obera and son Mickey traveled many miles to watch the Sooners play and once Coach Barry Switzer gave Kat, Obera and Mickey tickets to the 1988 Orange Bowl. Kat was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph in 1983; six brothers: Ray, Loyd, Lovell, Leonard, Pete, and Jack; one sister: Winnie Kiehn; two stepsons, Dale and Rusty. She is survived by two step daughters-in-law; Nancy Kenimer of Arkansas and Robbie Jo Kenimer of Texas and four step grandchildren. Kat is also survived by her nieces, nephews and their families whom she loved and cherished very much. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Cordell, Oklahoma under the direction of Kiehn Varner Funeral Home of Cordell. Officiating the services was Rev. Charles Sappington. Serving as pallbearers were nephews Ryan Bullard, Kelby Beech, Jordon Beech. Dr. Michael Kiehn, and Chad Kiehn.
