
James Modrell Price was born October 21, 1921 in Sulphur, Oklahoma, and died April 3, 2016, at the age of 94. He was one of five children born to Amos James and Winnie Baird Price. In the 1920’s the family moved to the Gotebo area. Later the Price family bought a farm three miles southeast of Cloud Chief. The children rode horses or walked to attend the Cloud Chief School. After receiving his diploma from Cloud Chief High School, he married Bessie Aldine Black in 1939. This union was blessed with three children, Peggy, Polly and Pat Price. James and Aldine lived and farmed in Cloud Chief for 53 years. James enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and dominos. He served several years on the Cloud Chief School Board. James was very instrumental in bringing rural water to Washita county by signing up many of his neighbors and serving on the water board. He traveled many miles as a rural route mail carrier. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. James was preceded in death by his wife, Aldine; his parents; two brothers, Orville and A. J. Price, Jr.; a sister, Hyawannah Ward; and stepmother, Barbara Plumlee Price. He is survived by two daughters, Peggy Sue Maddox and husband Dale, and Mary Pauline “Polly” Plummer and husband, Bob Plummer; one son, Perry Allen “Pat” Price and wife, Carol, all of Cordell, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Charlinda Ogle of Cloud Chief, Julie Maddox of Cordell, Miechelle Krueger of Argyle, Texas, Jim Price of Cordell, Mitch Plummer of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Karrie Stockton of Hobart, Oklahoma; nine great-grandchildren, Brittani Long of Cordell, Brett, Morgen and Berkley Price of Cordell, Jamie and Jessie Stockton of Hobart, Zach and Alex Plummer of Colorado Springs, and Joni Vejsui of Edmond, Oklahoma; great-great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Long and J. D. Maddox; one sister, Auma Jean Holt; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services for James Price will be April 6, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., at the Lawn view Cemetery in Cordell, Oklahoma, under the direction of Musick- Varner Funeral Home.
