Shirley Laverne McCuistion, 83, left this earth Wednesday, December 2, 2020, in Cordell, Ok. She passed of an illness unrelated to COVID-19. Laverne was born January 4, 1937 in Avery, Texas to Burl Wise and Inez Burkett Wise.

She was one of 8 children. Laverne lived most of her childhood in Dalby Springs, Texas. She met her husband, Jimmy McCuistion, in this area of Texas. They were married April 11, 1953. To this marriage 5 children would be born: Shirley Kay, Tim, Debra, Ricky Dale, and Nathan. Some time after marrying Jimmy, and starting a family, they moved to Oklahoma.

They lived in a few small towns in southwest Oklahoma, but Rocky is where Laverne called home for many years. Laverne and her family attended The Church of the Firstborn in Rocky. She was baptized into this church August 26, 1951.

Laverne spent most of her life working in the home, taking care of their children. She did briefly work outside the home.

She worked a few years at Robertson Curtain Factory in Cordell, Oklahoma. She drove the Red River transportation bus in Cordell for a brief time.

She also worked in home health care in Rocky for a few years.

Preceding Laverne in death is: Mother Inez, Father Burl, Husband Jimmy, and Son Ricky Dale. Brothers: Junior, Travis Bud, and Lenure. Sister Willie Belle Carter.

Laverne is survived by: Shirley Kay and husband Virgil Salmon of Rocky

Timothy Don and wife Teena McCuistion of Rocky, Debra and husband Monte Gray of Weatherford; Nathan and wife Sabrina McCuisition of Dill City

Sister Nell Boyd of Rocky; Brother Larry and his wife Cheryl Wise of Rocky

Sister Floyie and her husband Billy Joyner of New Boston, Texas.

She also leaves behind 28 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service: 2:30 p.m., Saturday, December 12, 2020, Lone Star Cemetery, Rocky, Oklahoma.
