March 29, 1940– Feb. 22, 2023
Henry McAbee Jr was born to Henry and Manie McAbee, March 29, 1940 in their home just northeast of Rocky.
Henry began school in a small country school and then attended Rocky, graduating there in 1958. In his early life he farmed with his dad and worked in the cotton gin during the evenings keeping books.
While the Burns Flat Air Force Base was being built Henry obtained a job with a few friends planting the shrubbery that’s still there today.
Henry married Linda Spain on August 19 of 1961 and made their home in Rocky, Oklahoma. Their sons Mitch and Shannon were born while living there.
In 1967 the family moved to a farm East of Rocky. This home and the land surrounding it is Henry farmed and raised cattle. During this part of life Henry also clerked and butchered in several grocery stores, eventually settling into the manager
position at Pucketts Grocery store in Cordell, where he worked until retirement. Puckett’s where he made many acquaintances and friends.
From the early 70’s Henry and Linda traveled to Branson almost every year and enjoyed several bus trips after his retirement.
Throughout his life Henry loved all things sports. He played his hand at baseball, softball, and bowled countless hours in the Cordell bowling league, and traveled to many tournaments. During his most recent years he enjoyed spending his free time watching The Oklahoma City Thunder, The Texas Rangers, OU Football, and especially enjoyed cheering on any team playing against the Dallas Cowboys.
When Henry’s grandchildren came into the picture he never missed a school function or sporting event. There were even a few extra events Henry attended without the grandkids... only because the parents accidentally forgot to tell him they wouldn’t be there.
At the age of 53 Henry suffered a heart attack that turned into a spiritually life changing event.
When leaving the hospital the nurses proclaimed “there goes the miracle man”. Through the remainder of his life Henry spoke of this life changing event to his friends and family testifying the joy and grace of God.
