
Funeral services for Velma A. Mason, 99, longtime Clinton resident will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church, officiated by Roland Youngberg. Burial will conclude in the Lawnview Cemetery in Cordell, Oklahoma, under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Velma A. (Ficken) Mason was born November 26, 1916, to Peter Fredrick Joseph Ficken and Anna Julia (Schaefer) in Marshall, Oklahoma, and passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016, in Oklahoma, City, Oklahoma. Mrs. Mason was raised in Marshall, Oklahoma, graduating from high school in 1934. She continued her education at Oklahoma A&M receiving a degree in Sociology in 1941.She was married to Dr. Walter S. Mason, Jr. on December 27, 1941, in Marshall, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Fort Collins, Colorado, where Dr. Mason completed his schooling for Veterinary Medicine. Upon his graduation they moved back to Western Oklahoma and settled in Clinton, where Dr. Mason would practice for the next several years. Velma assisted him in his practice. They also had other business ventures including the Trade Winds Motel/Restaurant, Bowling Alley, and family ranching. They were both very active with the Route 66 Museum. She was an active and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church where she was also involved with the women’s circle. Velma was an outstanding cook and loved to entertain her family and friends. Foremost in her life were her faith and her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Clara Meta Ficken; her husband, Dr. Walter Mason in 2007; and a son, Scott Mason III in 2008. Velma is survived by two daughters, Myra Lee Henry and Gene, Yukon, Oklahoma, and Marilyn Oldfield and husband, John, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Philis Mason, Norman; two brothers, Roland Ficken and wife, Virgene, Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Vernon Ficken and wife Sherry, Edmond, Oklahoma. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Gina Johnson and husband, Quent, Lantana, Texas; Tyler Henry and Fiancé, Carrie, Norman; Ryan Oldfield and wife, Erin, Oklahoma City; Meredith Wegener and husband, Bobby, Oklahoma City; Scott Mason IV, Norman; and Sarah Mason, Dallas, Texas, six great-grandchildren, Kendall Johnson, Cade Johnson, Alexander Oldfield, William Oldfield, Harper Rose Wegener and Henry Wegener.
